The Big Bend Tour

Highlights of The Big Bend Tour:

We'll head south then west toward the border of Mexico.
Lots of open road cruising, with almost no traffic,
past border towns and ranchlands.  We'll plan a stop
at Judge Roy Bean's Museum, then ride on to Marathon.
A breathtaking ride along the Santiago and Chalk
Mountains will take us into Big Bend State Park,
with incredible Rio Grande vistas
and spectacular curving roads.
From Fort Davis we turn east into the flatlands
and oil fields of west Texas, passing through San Angelo,
home of Fort Concho Museum.  Then we ride
through the Hill Country on our way back
to San Antonio and the end of our great
one-week Big Bend tour of west Texas.

Saturday – Arrival in San Antonio

The riders will get together in the evening with our Ride America tour guide to discuss the exciting week ahead.

Day 1 – Sunday - San Antonio to Eagle Pass - 236 miles

This morning we ride south into open country, enjoying the beauty of open roads as we pass through Cotulla, Crystal City and Carrizo Springs on our way to Eagle Pass, right across the border from Piedras Negras, Mexico.

Day 2 – Monday – Eagle Pass to Marathon - 230 miles

We cruise beside the Rio Grande this morning, along the Mexico border, to Del Rio.  We'll cross the Amistad Reservoir, stop for a visit at the Judge Roy Bean Museum in Langtry, then continue west through Pecos County to Maratho..

Day 3 – Tuesday – Marathon to Lajitas - 201 miles

A spectacular ride today, toward the Santiago Mountains and into the incredible Big Bend National Park.  We'll follow the trails to Rio Grande Village, Chisos Basin and Castolon at Santa Elena Canyon.  This afternoon we exit the park at Study Butte and pass through Terlingua on our way to Lajitas.

Day 4 – Wednesday – Lajitas to Fort Davis - 206 miles

We'll cruise west through Big Bend Ranch State Park this morning, between the Rio Grande and the Bofecillos Mountains, headed for Presidio at the Mexico border.  We'll turn north to Marfa, then ride a spectacular loop through the southern Davis Mountains, past McDonald Observatory, before arriving in Fort Davis.

Day 5 – Thursday – Fort Davis to San Angelo - 256 miles

A good solid West Texas ride today, through the flatlands and oilfields of West Texas.  We'll pass by Fort Stockton, McCamey and Big Lake on our way to San Angelo, home of the Fort Concho Museum.

Day 6 – Friday – San Angelo to Kerrville - 193 miles

We'll follow increasingly beautiful back roads today as we head east into the Hill Country, via Brady and Llano.  You'll have a chance to enjoy the German heritage in Fredericksburg, home of the Admiral Nimitz Museum, before arriving in Kerrville.

Day 7 – Saturday – Kerrville to San Antonio - 91 miles

This fantastic open road West Texas tour is almost over, so this morning we ride curving, hilly country roads back to San Antonio.  If you are flying out, plan your flight departure for after 2:00pm.
